TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
The Maldon Portrait Prize 2025, presented by the Maldon Artist Network (MANET) and Cascade Art Gallery, is open to all artists, living in Australia over the age of 16 years, professional, emerging or amateur.
Artists are requested to not publish their images of entries on social media prior to the selection of finalists.
1. The sitter for the portrait must be known to the artist. The sitter must consent and be aware of the artist’s intention to exhibit their portrait
2. Each artist may submit a maximum of two entries. A separate entry form and non-refundable application fee of $40, to be paid online, will accompany each individual entry. Entries will not be accepted for consideration until the fee is paid.
3. All entries must be an original work, and completed within 5 years.
4. May be painted, drawn or printed in oil, acrylic, ink, watercolour, egg tempera, encaustic, mixed media, graphite, charcoal, pastel and autographic print. No AI generated works will be accepted
5. Be essentially two dimensional.
6. Have a maximum width of 90 cm, including frame.
7. Image files need to be a high-resolution JPEG file. with a minimum file size of 2 MB and no bigger than 5 MB. (TIFF files will not be accepted as a valid entry. As a rule of thumb, if they appear pixelated on screen it is too small, in resolution).
8. File names should include the artist’s name and title of the work as listed on the entry form. Eg. Brown_Jack_Mum_oil on linen.
9. For the finalist exhibition, artwork will be ready for hanging with large “D” rings affixed approximately one third from the top of the frame and wire not higher than 80 mm below the top of the frame.
10. The selection committee reserves the right to reject any painting or drawing deemed unfit to exhibit (including works that differ greatly from entry photographs).
11. Artworks are to be completely dry if selected for the finalists’ exhibition at Cascade Art Gallery.
12. All entries will be exhibited online unless the artist elects not to be shown.
13. The artist warrants that the work submitted is original and does not infringe the copyright, moral rights or other rights of any third party, and that he or she owns all rights and interests in the work submitted. The artist will indemnify and keep indemnified the Maldon Artist Network/Cascade Art Gallery and their sponsors and agents against any claim by a third party in relation to the work.
Online entries will include:
• Artist details including email address, telephone contact and address.
• A short artist statement including date your work was finished.
• All art works are to be for sale The artist will nominate a sale price underneath artist details on the entry form. Maldon Portrait Prize will take a 25% commission so please factor this into the sale price.
SELECTION OF FINALISTS
1. Finalists will be notified by email before Friday 31 March 2025 if selected.
2. The judges’ decision will be final, non-negotiable and no discussion will be entered into.
FINALISTS
1. All finalist artworks must be delivered to Cascade Art Gallery, The Church 1A Fountain St, Maldon, Vic 3463 between 10 am – 5 pm Sunday 1 June or Monday 2nJune 2025

2. Insurance of the artwork is highly recommended during periods of travel and is the responsibility of the artist. All reasonable care will be taken during the exhibition. Maldon Artist Network is insured for damage or loss of the work during the exhibition. It is the artist’s responsibility to organise delivery and collection of artworks and payment of all courier/mailing including any packaging for return delivery. Artworks are not insured after the 30th of June2025 and not the responsibility of the exhibition organisers.
3. Cascade Art Gallery will determine where each artwork will be installed. Curation rests with the gallery and we will not enter discussion or negotiation for placement of artworks.
4. All artworks to be labelled on the back top right hand side with name of artist, title,price, contact email address and telephone contact.
5. From the selected artworks the nominated Portrait Prize Judge will decide on the First Prize winner of $10,000, and the Emerging Artist Prize of $2,000. An Online People’s Choice Award of $500 will be determined by an online audience.
6. The winners of the $10,000 Prize, and the Emerging Artist Prize, will be announced at the Opening of the Maldon Portrait Prize 2025 Finalist Exhibition Saturday 7 June 2025, 2.00 pm – 5.00 pm Cascade Art Gallery, The Church 1A Fountain St, Maldon, Victoria 3463.
7. The Prize is non-acquisitive.
8. The artist agrees that all works entered can be used as promotion for the exhibition and the Maldon Portrait Prize across all media. Artist attribution will always be made, but the organisation is not responsible for third party error in attribution.
9. Copyright remains with the artist at all times.
